Television has brought great changes to the way children spend their leisuretime, while some of these changes have been beneficial, others have had a harmful effect.

To what extend do you agree or disagree?

In the past 40 or 50 years, television has become more popular for children than the other form of entertainment items. In each home, every child spends several hours to watch TV and parents disapprove about it. Many parents should prevent their children from watching TV.

As a leisure activity, television like other items has several advantages and disadvantages for children. Firstly, TV is the easier and safer way than the other items for them to relax. Secondly, it can be like a hight education; for instance, children can learn every thing such as subjects, sports, music and the other kinds of acvtities. Lastly, they can acquire wider vocabulary and improve their general knowledge than previous generation.

On the other hand, it also has detrimental effect for children. Even though parents may prevent their children from watching TV, they have become addicted to it. When children spend many hours on watching TV, they become lonelier and feel more isolated. They spend less time with other activities; for example, they do not read books and do not play sports with their friends. Since they spend so much time in front of TV, they have fewer hobbies than previous generations did.

In conclusion, it is clear that TV has both positive sides and negative effects on the way children spend their time in their leisure time. To sum up, parents should chek how much time children spend on watching TV and check the type of programmes they watch. Parents should encourage their children to watch the kinds of programmes that have entertaining and educational effects. Children have to be encouraged to spend their time on other activities such as playing with their friends and spend more time to study their lessons and pay more attention on their schools subjects.
