The table below shows the estimated literacy rates by region and gender for 2000-2004. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. The table illustrates the percentages of women and men who can read and write in five different countries in the years between 2000 and 2004. Overall, it is seen that Europe had the highest literacy rates in both genders in the world, while Africa had the lowest number of women and men who were literates. In details, people from Europe had the highest proportion of literacy in the world, at almost 99%. Also, their literate women and male number outweighted the number of women and male who could read and write in other countries, at 98,5% and 99.2%, respectively.
