In the last 20 years there have been significant developments in the field of information technology (IT), for example the World Wide Web and communication by email. However, these developments in IT are likely to have more negative effects than positive in the future.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.

All around the world, lots of new important improvements about information technology (IT) such as the World Wide Web have come to the surface during two decades. These advancements have had both positive sides and detrimental effects. I am of the opinion that these innovations are going to have a lot more positive effects than negative ones.

The first benefit which IT offers to our lives is that everyone can communicate with anyone around the world in ease at any time. By just using email, we can easily reach someone who is so far from where we are located. Taking an email account, for instance, is completely free. However, plane tickets are not always affordable for everyone who wants to meet their long distance friends. Speaking via email is also speedier than speaking by changing countries or waiting for a specific meeting day.

What is more about the convenience of IT is that it makes people obtain any kind of information whenever and wherever they need. Nowadays, lots of people would not rather go to libraries. Instead of that, they use the World Wide Web. Looking for required information through the World Wide Web causees people to gain plenty of time. Furthermore, discussing information is quite easy by using specific web sites. On these websites, experts can negotiate the problems that they are trying to handle with and also can share their knowledge with others rather than organising symposiums. For example, during pandemic, the student community and I from the college wanted to arrange a student congress; Nonetheless, the Covid-19 did not give permission to this, so that we did it online reaching hundreds of students all around Turkey.

On the other hand, IT could bring some negative effects to humanity in the future. To utilize IT, we have to sit in front of the computers, which might take hours. Health problems such as obesity and cardiovascular problems, as a consequence, might increase significantly. Moreover, using computers reduces the ability of socialization because people mostly prefer to sit and talk via skype with others instead of going somewhere especially during rush hours and rainy days.

To sum up, due to the fact that IT leads us to live in an easy way, I totally agree that it will bring a lot positive effects rather than drawbacks in upcoming years. However, if IT becomes over-used, humanity will have to deal with some inevitable sorts of health and social problems in a very close future.
