The plans below show a public park when it first opened in 1920 and the same park today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The ‘Grange Park’ was opened in the year 1920, and the first drawing demonstrates its circumstance at that time. As for the second drawing, it shows the current plan of the ‘Grange Park’. Overall, it is noticed that the size and form of the park remained the same despite many changes.
Firstly, as it can be clearly seen from the plan in 1920, there were a fountain in the middle of the ‘Grange Park’ and a stage for musicians on the left side of the plan. Two rose gardens were placed on the north and south side of the stage. In addition to this, there was also a rose garden on the right of the Arnold Avenue entrance. A total of five seats were located in the park, four of which were around the rose gardens and the other one was on the southeast corner of the park. If we evaluate the area on the right side of the fountain, we notice that there was a big pond for water plants on the northeast corner of the park and a rectangular glasshouse on the right side of the Eldon Street entrance.
The ‘Grande Park’ has renovated significantly since then. Now, a square rose garden with sitting area has been situated where the fountain was located before. As for the place of the stage for musicians, it is seen that an amphitheatre for concerts has been built there. One of the rose gardens and four seats there have been removed. Apart from these, by removing the glasshouse, the municipality has built a water feature in its place. Furthermore, a new cafe and children’s play area have been added to the right side of the Arnold Avenue entrance. In addition to all these, there is an underground car park for visitors in the recent plan.
