The line chart illustrates the number of millions of visitors to the UK and overseas residents from the UK from 1979 to 1999. The bar chart demonstrates the most popular countries which UK residents choose to visit in 1999. Overall, it is seen that both the number visitors from England and the number of visitors to England are quite high. France was the most preferred destination for those who want to go abroad from England.
To begin with, the number of people living in the UK and visiting abroad was higher than that of visitors to the UK, and this number was close to almost 10 million and remained the same throughout the period. Over the years, abroad visits have increased significantly over 50 million, while the number of overseas residents has stayed under 30 million and this number is almost half of the number from the residents of the UK. The sharp increase in visits to the UK was obvious and continued over a period of 20 years.
In conclusion, in 1999, the most popular country to travel was France with the number of 10-15 million visitors. Following this, Spain was the second-preferred attraction with around 9 million tourists. Visits to the USA, Turkey, and Greece were all under 5 million. Following this order were Turkey with 2 million, Greece with 3 million and USA with 4 million tourists, which make them less popular than Spain and France. Turkey was the least preferred country by the UK residents.
