The table demonstrates the percentage of students attending four different types of secondary education institutions between 2000-2009. By years, while community schools experienced an upward trend in the proportion of those who attended their institutions during the term, others saw a drop.

Firstly, the percentage of tutees in specialist schools decreased slightly by 1% in 2005 and again by 1% in 2009. A total slight fall was 2% in 9 years in these schools. In the same period, the percentage of pupils in voluntary-controlled schools decreased by almost a third in 9 years, which was a significant decrement. There was a minor shrink in total number of students in grammar schools, just under one quarter, which is a drop by half.

On the other hand, demand for community schools increased sharply while interest in the other three types of schools declined. While the proportion of pupils was 12% in 2000, in the end of the next 9 years, it reached more than half of all students and finished the period at 58%.
