The given table presents the percentages of students who were educated in four secondary school types from 2000 to 2009. At the first glance, it is seen that the percentages of community schools rose steeply over the period; however, a considerable collapse is observed in the percentages of the voluntary-controlled schools which was the most popular school in the beginning.
To begin, the data in the given table reveals that there was a dramatical decrease both in the proportion of students in voluntary-controlled schools from 52% to 20% and in the rate of pupils in grammar schools by a half over the period. The attending percentage of specialist schools' students could be described as more stable than that of other schools despite the fact that it slightly fell down by around 2% in the given time.
In contrast, the other three types of schools lost their effective roles in the education system, which led to a gap between these school types and community schools. Consequently, this gap was filled by community schools and in this way the percentage of their students' attendance leveled up sharply from 12% to 58% at the end of the period.
