Today the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not real needs of the society in which they are sold.
To what extend do you agree?
Today's world companies are using many advertising ways to boost their sales of products or services. We see adverts on television, on the World Wide Web, on the streets, even on our mobile phones. This can lead to some problems such as manipulating the consumers. I fully agree with the view that adverts are everywhere and they are powerful enough to trick customers into buying event those things they do not really need.
First of all, on the phone screen, a product may look gorgeous and good quality because companies designed the ads in this way. They do not show you the bad sides of their products. As a result of it, people generally buy the products without enough consideration. Consumers may not actually need it. However, they buy goods impulsively soon after they watch the advertising. For instance, Apple and Samsung release new phone almost every year, and in fact, although there is only a little difference between the new ones and the previous versions, consumers purchase the new products because they are impressed by their advertisement.
In addition, the advertising industry hires famous celebrities as brand ambassadors, which influences individuals to buy their premium products. For example, Lebron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durent endores the Nike brand. This has increased the sale of Nike products as they have huge number of fans following all World. Basketball products advertised by them have tremendous impact on the brand sale. People become emotionally attached to the brands and buy them regardless of whether they need those products or whether they can afford them.
To sum up, advertising is now a part of our lives. It is nearly impossible to live without them. However, we as consumers, should be more careful. This helps us to compare various goods and to take right decisions. Therefore, we need to be aware of our genuine requirements, so that we can make sensible choices.
