More and more parents are allowing their children to play on computers and tablets as they think that children should learn technology skills.

Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

There is not any iota of doubt that modern technology is taking over our lives day after day. Huge number of parents are relying on computers and tablets to make their children learn new things. In this essay, I will discuss both pluses and minuses of using technology for learning.

The main positive side of using technological gadgets is that it supports social interaction and enhances communication skills. In other saying, children can easily communicate with their families and friends with the help of technology. Moreover, due to advanced features of technological devices, specifically smart phones, kids get the chance to make use of them not only to call but also to have fun and acquire new information. Children have the opportunity to learn through various educational applications especially during the time when they do not go to school due to the pandemic. Furthermore, playing games on tablets increases their mental stimulation, fine motor skills and concentration.

On the flip side of the coin, there are handful of demerit consequences, as well. Firstly, excessive use of electronic devices ends up with children’s void of physical activity. Another issue is that children prefer isolation and become addicted to these tools. In addition, studies on children who look at the screen for a long time claim that these devices can have negative effect on their eyes and mental development, which ulimately affects their physical health as well as their social skills adversely.

In conclusion, I personally believe that the drawbacks of allowing children to use computers and tablets outweigh the benefits. Parents should necessarily take a great responsibility in monitoring the health of their children and their difficulties in socializing.
