Smoking not only harms the smoker, but also those who are nearby. Therefore, smoking should be banned in public places.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.

According to a number of medical researches, smoking causes various health problems for people who smoke as well as passive smokers. Consequently, numerous people suggest that smoking should not be permitted in public locations. However, there are opposite ideas about this. I strongly support the idea that smoking should be prohibited in public areas.

The dissidents of the idea of banning smoking put several reasons forward. First and foremost, they say that such a ban is not different from other restrictions on freedom of people. In all probability, smoking is not opposed to the laws, and this banning should not limit the liberty of people. Furthermore, they believe that passive smokers generally do not object to the smokers smoking when they spend time in the same locations. If non-smokers do not want to inhale smoke, then they can make the choice to go to the places where people do not smoke. In addition to this, they claim that banning smoking affects the activity of pubs and night clubs negatively. People naturally will not be willing to go to these places because they do not want to drink without smoking, and as a result, people should have the rights to smoke where they need.

On the other hand, there are many medical researches which show the accounts of a ban with a lot of strong evidences. First of all, tobacco comprises at least 250 types of harmful chemical substances which cause serious damage to not only smokers but also people who are exposed to cigarettes smoke. The one who is nearby to a smoker can be diagnosed with cancer, emphysema, and heart attack. Moreover, children are always more sensitive to smoke of the cigarettes, especially who have asthma. Being subject to smoke can be fatal for children because of the asphyxiation. It is clearly not fair to take away someone's right to breathe. What is more, people's health are more prominent than commerces. Anyone who wants to smoke in pubs or night clubs can go to the smoking areas where the banning rules can be obeyed.

To sum up, when it is looked at both sides of these disputes, I am of the opinion that smoking should be made illicit in public areas. This interdict can definitely cause positive evolvements and no doubt may lead to the health enhancement of millions of people.
