Some people believe the aim of university education is to help graduates get better jobs. Others believe there are much wider benefits of university education for both individuals and society. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.
The number of people who decide to follow their studies at the university increasing day by day. While some people think that higher education can provide better job prospects, others assume that it has wider benefits for both individuals and society. I believe that attending higher education gives us the chance to boost ourselves in many aspects. It does not just provide a better job opportunity.
Some parts of the society are of the opinion that university education ensures the chance to get a better job. One of the main problems in today's societies is the difficulty of getting hired, which causes people to steer for ways to prove that they are worthy of recruiting. To achieve this goal, they believe that higher education can lead them to enhance their skills in specific working areas. This could make them more valuable and demanded employees in their fields. Thus, they think that the golden rule of working in a better job is being a qualified worker and the key point to achieve this aim is attending the university. Moreover, they hold the idea that working in a better job and atmosphere could help them feel happier, wealthier and healthier, which may naturally cause them to live in higher standards of living.
The other part of the society are in the view that university education is not only a precious advantage for finding a better position in work, but it also a great chance to improve their knowledge in a specific field, their personality and mentality in many ways. They believe that the community, which consists of well-educated people, can have unlimited benefits for both their society and themselves, as well. For instance, most of the universities have student communities which might cater for their members' interests to lead them to get socialized and develop their communication skills. This type of gathering can improve attendances' EQ, a major quotient by which people can comfortably communicate with others. A society consisting of people without enough communication skills would be confined to face off many problems.
As for my humble opinion, I think that universities are not only a place that gains knowledge in a variety of fields, but it is also a place that people can improve themselves both personally and academically. I am an example of this fact. I gained a regular exercise habit due to the facilities that the university in which I studied provided for their students. Basically, this made me healthier than before, and it also stabilized my mood during the day, which played a great role in assisting me to deal with the problems smoothly.
All in all, it is quite obvious that whatever the reason for attending university may be, it is an undeniable fact that university education is highly beneficial for communities and individuals' future. There is no doubt about higher education has many advantages for finding a good job. Yet, apart from this fact, it also improves the society's and individuals' well-being.
