Some people think that hosting an international sports event is good for the country, while some people think it is bad. Discuss both views and state your opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

There are some people who defend that opening gates of a country for the purpose of providing a place for universal sports activities are beneficial for the country’s welfare, whilst others believe in a totally opposite direction. In this essay, both sides of the view will be discussed, and the author's own idea will be given.

Some people, including me, are in favor of the idea that hosting a global sports event such as the Olympics or Football World Cup has the potential to make a great contribution to a country for several reasons. To begin with, while countries host an international sports occasion, they are not just welcoming athletes of other nationalities, but also accommodating a tremendous number of overseas citizens who are willing to spend money. These people do shopping, eat in local restaurants, and stay in hostels. As a result of their expenditures, a considerable amount of money can be granted to countries' economic growth. Secondly, countries can promote themselves with the help of worldwide recreational activities. In the article that I read recently, it is stated that a country’s popularity and familiarity are boosted after hosting a global sports tournament due to the workshops that are held during the event with the aim of presenting country.

However, although there are clear benefits of hosting a universal sports event in a country, some people do not support this statement because of the damages left behind and increasing tension between the supporters. Firstly, the area that is utilized for the international sports competitions is mostly left with a great amount of litter and leftovers after the event. Moreover, due to the raising excitement and reckless behaviors of fanatics’, momentous destruction can be seen in the contest area such as vandalism and damaging public properties. Consequently, governments have to spend a great extent of money on reparation and cleansing. Additionally, global sports tournaments usually escalate national feelings, which ultimately leads arguments to even violence that may provoke an international crisis. That is to say, the drawbacks of having bad relationships with other countries outweigh the advantages of hosting a global sports contest.

To conclude, despite arguments about whether hosting a worldwide sports occasion is advantageous for the country or not, I opine that these kinds of events ought to take place in one’s country for its great profits on the economic growth and promotion of the country.
