The table demonstrates the percentage of students attending four various types of secondary schools from 2000 to 2009. Overall, it is seen that the number of pupils who attended community schools augmented gradually over the period of years, whereas the other three sorts of schools decreased.
Firstly, the table reveals the fact that the proportions of school children attending voluntary-controlled schools were the highest, which was more than half in 2000. However, in the subsequent years, there was a substantial decrease, and its percentage subsidised to a fifth in 2009. Correspondingly, the rate of attending grammar schools declined from just under a quarter to almost one in ten between the years 2000 and 2009. For the specialist schools, the percentage of attending pupils decreased steadily in each 5-year period from just over one in ten to one in ten, and this amount was trivial.
In a sharp contrast, while the rate of other three kinds of school declined significantly, that of community schools rose with a considerable percentage. In the year 2000, the rate of students studying in community schools was low (12%), while in 2009, this proportion swelled to almost three-fifths. As it is seen in the given table, community schools were the most popular school types in the year 2009.
