The graph below gives information about changes in the birth and death rates in New Zealand between 1901 and 2101.

The line graph illustrates comparative data in the birth and death rates in New Zealand from 1901 to nowadays and forecast rates till 2101. Overall, it can be seen that the rates of death had an upward trend till 2050 and it is predicted to level off by the end of the twentyfirst century.
As it is shown in the graph, the birth rate was 20 000 at the beginning of this time frame. Then, it reached its peak by aproximately 65 000 in 1961. In addition, there were many fluctuations in this sixty years of the twentieth century. There were two slight falls in 1921 and in 1945. In the second half of this century, there was a gradual decline in birth rates that was 50 000 in 1981 and as a contrast trend, the rates increased slowly to 60 000 by the year of 2001. It is clearly seen that after 2001, rates are estimated to decrease gradually to just over 40 000 by the end of the twentyfirst century.
As regards to the death rates, it started at nearly 9 000 in 1901. Therefore, it had an upward trend with many waves till the end of twentieth century. Then, it is estimated that the death rates will increase rapidly to just below 60 000 in the middle of the 21st century and it will decrease to 45 000 till the end of this century.
On the whole, İt is estimated that both the birth and death rates will be equal in 2040 and the death rates will be higher than the birth rates by the end of the 21st century.
