The position of women in society has changed markedly in the last twenty years. Many of the problems young people now experience, such as juvenile delinquency, arise from the fact that many married women now work and are not at home to care for their children.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

It is certainly true that social role of women has undergone a dramatic change over the past twenty years. Therefore, some people believe that crime rates among adolescents have risen due to the employment of women, whereas others do not share this opinion. From my perspective, the problems experienced by children are not related with women's new attitudes and behaviours for several reasons.

To begin with, according to the researchers, there are too young detainees in penitentiary to be ignored and the mothers of these criminals follow the traditional role of women. The researchers explain this situation by claiming that even though their mothers have always been at home, they do not know how to deal with and take care of their children properly, because of their insufficient education and conservative approach of child rearing practices. However, this issue is the opposite when it comes to working women. Because of their comprehensive education, they know far more about how a child's altering emotions and wrongful behaviors can be regulated than many other housewives. Consequently, adolescents whose mothers have these kinds of qualities develop balanced and coherent identities, which minimizes their illegal activities.

Besides working women's abilities in parenting, they make a momentous amount of contribution to the house budget. In this manner, they can provide more opportunities to canalize adolescents excessive energy to healthy activities such as soccer, swimming, etc. This is a significant issue, since it is a proven fact that engaging with one kind of leisure activity after school keeps young people out of illegitimate and anomalous activities running on the streets. However, these facilities come at a cost and often require two salaries to come into a family in order to be afforded. Hence, having a working mother at home will reduce child's problems rather than increase them.

In conclusion, though some people think that young imprisonment is on the rise because of the changing role of accustomed mother, others support that problems experienced by young people are not related with the employment of women. In my point of view, criminal practices among young people do not take its root from mothers who are working due to fact that working women have better skills in childcare practices, and their contribution to home economy provides healtier environment for their kids.
