The line graph demonstrates the consumption of fast food by adolescents in Australia between 1975 and 2000. Overall, it can be seen that over the 25 years of period, pizza and hamburgers consumption has increased significantly while the numnber of eaten fish and chips has decreased remarkably.
Fish and chips consumption among teenagers in Australia was 100 times a year in 1975. This corresponds to approximately 20 times the rate of consumed pizza and hamburger which was approximately 5 times in that year. Afterwards, a step by step decrease is observed in fish and chips consumption until 1980. However, fish and chips consumption in the mist of young people in Australia rose for the last time between 1980 and 1985. It is seen that the annual eaten fish and chips gradually decreased below 40 percent in the period up to 2000.
In sharp contrast to this, the teenager’s consumption of the other two junk foods is at much higher level. Pizza eating increased gradually until 1990. Pizza consumption remained almost constant from 1995 to 2000. On the other hand, hamburgers was consumed 100 times a year. There was a continuoues and sharp rise in hamburgers consumption between 1975 and 1980.
As a result, although the consumption of fast food among young people in Australia started well below the fish and chips consumption figures, there were significant changes with the increase in pizza and hamburgers consumption over time.
