Salary increases and promotions to new positions are not the only ways to reward employees for good work. What other rewards for good work can be effective in encouraging further good work? Use specific examples to support your response.

When employees at a company perform well, they can be rewarded in a variety of ways. Increasing salary or handing out promotions to higher positions are well-known rewards, but they are not always possible for a company to provide especilly for a small one. Several other types of awards can be done to encourage good performance. Recognition for accomplishments and increasing the authority for outstanding performers are two other forms of rewards for good work that a company might want to consider.

Recognition is one sort of reward for good work that a company might consider. It is important not to overlook the benefits of employing recognition as a reward. When a business takes an effort to recognize a high performance by a specific individual, it can have a beneficial impact on the employee. The employee who has been chosen for recognition will be grateful for the honor and will want to continue to work well in order to be worthy of it. The employee, however, will not be the only one who benefits from the act; the employee's coworkers will, as well. Coworkers of the employee will recognize the importance of good performance in the workplace and will want to gain their own recognition. As a result, the usage of recognition as a reward for example of this occurs has a positive impact on the entire business.

In addition to recognizing good work, a second type of reward is granting additional authority to staff who have performed well. Employees who have performed well in their existing positions may be given more control over their jobs as a reward, and this control could come in a variety of forms. Employees could be granted the ability to make decisions that previously required approval or to work in a less closely supervised workplace. Employees may also be given the option of choosing which projects or tasks they will work on. This form of motivation can go a long way towards increasing employee's happiness in their current position.

In a nutshell, if a company wishes to encourage more and better work in the company, it must provide rewards for good work. These rewards do not always have to be in the form of increased payments, which might be too costly for the company, or promotions, which can be problematic if successful employees are constantly changing jobs. Instead, rewards such as recognition for excellent performance or the awarding of increased authority within current positions can go a long way to show that a business values good performance.
