Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Because the world is changing so quickly, people are now less happy or satisfied with their life than people were in the past.

As we all know, in this modern and progressive world, people have been struggling to live in an appropriate circumstance in order to be happy and away from psychological and physical pains. While some individuals believe that people were happier in the past, others hold the view that human beings are more satisfied and happier today. I subscribe to the former group’s idea, and the reasons to explain my viewpoint are elaborated in the following paragraphs.

For individuals to be happy, they should have a convenient lifestyle in which they do not have problems in most part; however, nowadays, having different financial and social problems and being exposed to air-pollution along with inappropriate and inorganic food stuffs, people never can live in an excellent circumstance in this sophisticated world. In other words, the surge of population has brought stunning inflation rate in most undeveloped and semi-developed countries and at the same time industrialization has made a variety of environmental problems. As an illustration, most people are eating foods including chemical additive either intentionally or subconsciously, which affects their health dramatically. Needless to say, in such inconvenient situation individuals can’t be happy today.

Furthermore, the advent of technology has altered many customs in modern human life, which although increases their welfare in some aspects, results in a dramatic degradation in their happiness. Obviously, most people spend a lot of time in from of computer or dealing with electronic devices such as tablets or smart cellphones every day, which makes them isolated and motionless, which in turn, brings many psychological and physical pains. Let us clarify this notion by providing an example. When I was a little boy, approximately 25 years ago, I studied in traditional classroom and played with my classmates in our home yard after school. Moreover, we had weekly family ceremony with our relatives every weekend, which made us really happy and energetic. But what we are now experiencing is an entirely different story. Nowadays, most academic courses are online, and we are addicted to communicate with our friends and relatives via social media, and as a result, all enjoyable communications have removed from our lives due to our modern lifestyle. Therefore, we cannot be happy as much as we were in the past.

In conclusion, considering the aforementioned reasons and examples, I do believe that people are not today as much as happy they were in the past. Not only do they live in a worser environment with an unsuitable food chain, today, but also deal with new technologies changing their lifestyle exclusively.
