The diagram below shows the process of distilling salty water into fresh water.
Using the information in the diagram and the list of materials, describe the process and what is involved.
The given illustration demonstrates the way in which water is purified from salt by a home-made system. Overall, as it can be clearly seen from the illustration, to produce fresh water a heat source, a metal funnel, a pipe with a wet cloth on it, and a bucket are used. The procedure contains 3 stages.
Firstly, a pot is filled with salty water and as a cap, and a metal funnel is tied to the pot to lead the steam to the tube. This pot is put on a heat source which in this case is a gas stove. As the water starts boiling, the rising steam is carried to a pipe by the narrow side of the funnel.
Once the hot and pure steam entered the pipe, for the aim of converting it to liquid again by the way of reducing its heat, a wet cloth is put on the pipe. At this stage, a jug of water is helpful to keep the cloth wet.
After the cooling stage, the steam is condensated and it is ready to be collected. The ending part of the pipe is shapened downward in order to let the pure water find its way to the bucket. At the end of the distillation process, the fresh water without salinity is ready to drink.
