The line graph illustrates the distribution of the number of people aged 65 and over in the society of three different countries from 1940 to 2040. Overall, it can be seen that while the USA and Sweden are predicted to share similar patterns over the time period, Japan will display different progression.

According to the graph, the USA and Sweden are expected to show very much similar progress in terms of the number of people who aged 65 or over as the time passes. In the USA, the proportion of the population aged 65 and over stood at just under one in ten in 1940, which pointed out the highest percentage of the elderly population compared to the other two countries at that time. Except for the almost steady position from 1980 to 2020, the number of people who aged 65 and over will continuously rise in the USA, though its pattern is prospected to demonstrate fluctutations over time. As it comes to the distribution of eldery in Sweden's population, it started at nearly 7% and is expected to increase over the period. It will overtake the USA's elder population at almost 2020 and will end nearly three times as big as the starting level by 2040.

The percentage of elder people in Japanese community, on the other hand, began at one in twenty in 1940, which was the lowest amount in comparison to the USA's and Sweden's population of older people. Although having initially decreased, the number of eldery in the Japanese society is assumed to increase gradually until about 2030. After this time, this figure is expected to show a sharp climb and overtake the proportion of eldery population in the USA and Sweden at 2040 ending at above a quarter.
